Power Play and BBQ – 15th July 2017
Much effort had gone into preparing the course for teams of three to play this fun PowerPlay format. We were generally playing the course backwards with options available to double points if the hardest route to a specific green was taken.
Teeing off from the seventh up to the eighth green set us on our way. There was only one way to go here so no double points available.
We had options to double points on the newly created par three to the seventh green from the eighth fairway or single points score if you took the less hazardous route from the top of the seventh fairway playing in the usual directions. This set the tone for the round!
The fun really began on the fourth fairway teeing up just past the ridge for the black route (hardest) to the fifth green. If the this route was taken it was further complicated by the tricky pin position. The pin sat directly behind the left hand side bunker on the slope of the green. Crazy golf ensued as the ball was determined not to go down the hole!
A similar situation occurred on the ninth where, in sight of many spectators, shots were rapidly used up as the ball rolled up to the hole and back again. A great time was had by all.
The winners came in with a magnificent 63 points (off eight holes). They were Keith and Deryn Holland and Robin Ferguson.
We owe a huge thanks to Scott White and Pauline Risk for organising the event for the Captains’ 2020 Benefit Fund.
Paul and his team at Whiteleaf Catering ran a slick and tasty BBQ with several family members and guests coming up to enjoy the post golf fun
