RAF Halton team

When Graham Enfield and Jill Dodds were elected to their respective roles of Club Captain and Ladies Captain in 2010 at Whiteleaf, they decided that their nominated charity during their captain’s year would be Help For Heroes.

In conjunction with over 200 other clubs across the UK in late July, Whiteleaf Golf Club participated in the national golf club challenge, in aid of our forces personnel injured in combat, by holding its annual charity day competition.

The day saw a full turnout of 96 golfers, male and female, participating in a stableford competition, with the added incentive that the top 10 scores in both male and female categories from the Whiteleaf day would be considered for further competition in the national golf club challenge at the Belfry.

Congratulations go to our top 10 lady golfers on the day who have won the ladies section of the National Golf Club Challenge.

The day was an outstanding success, and saw Whiteleaf raise an amount in excess of £11,000, a cheque for which was presented at the end of the prize giving to Group Captain Ian Atkinson of RAF Halton to receive on behalf of the charity.

Ian was a participant in a specially invited 4 ball from RAF Halton, and was himself a winner on the day taking the prize for the longest drive on the 15th. Ian commented – “It has been a tremendous day organised by the captains and their charity committee, and to raise over £11,000 to assist our injured troops is a fantastic achievement. The funds will be used at one of the rehabilitations centres across the UK. Many thanks to all concerned at the club.”

Whiteleaf Golf Club is extremely proud to be recognised as the highest fund raising club on the Help For Heroes weekend throughout the UK

And as far as the golf was concerned, it was a day when the ladies in the club came into their own with some very impressive stableford scores, all four individual scores counting –

.

Top with 154 stableford points came Molly Butler, Hannah Frodsham, Denise Bullard and Julia Gaisford.

Second with 152, came Mandy Phillips, Judy Fitch, Vivienne Hill, and Lizzie Fowke.

And in third place with 148 points came Sally Harbourne, Peter Harbourne, Jim Targus and Jane Rigby-Fielder
