Benefit Day – 29th May 2017
For the second year running Whiteleaf members and friends came up trumps to raise the magnificent sum of £6,500.
The fund raising kicked off with the plant sale, which in itself, raised over £1000 during the course of the weekend. Joy Biggs and Joan Muras managed our members who gave so generously: seedlings, saplings and super blooms to sell. They organised the rota to man the stall and offered the specialist knowledge and advice to those less familiar with how to nurture their purchases.
On the day, 17 four-person teams played eighteen holes, counting the best three scores as they went. Additional points were gained by beating the pro on the fifth, driving the ninth green and chipping onto the target area on the practice green at the 16th.
Home baked cakes were a welcome boost at the half way house. Despite the torrential downpour late in the afternoon a great day was had out on the course and there was more fun to be had back in the clubhouse. Whiteleaf Catering offered a delicious choice of mains and desserts to ease us into the Grand Draw, Auction and final presentations.
We would like to thank the organising committee of five past ladies’ captains for their sustained efforts and commitment to the cause:
- Veronica Oak (President), Liz Vaughan, Pauline Risk, Joy Biggs and Joan Muras
However, further sincere thanks go to members and friends who supported the event in the run up as well as on the day. The day showcased team spirit at its absolute best.
